You have to remove the black cover on the top and then adjust the spring tension by rotating the toothed wheel. Make sure you mark it before you do anything just incase it slips when you're adjusting it (it's spring loaded). It's a bit of a trial and error process, adjust it one notch, then drive repeat... and continue to do that until you find the best setting. Given that your check engine light is coming on I'm guessing the wheel is too loose so try tightening it and see if that resolves the problem.
