are you talking about the tie rod end threading onto the inner part? or the balljoint into the strut? If you're talking about the end(#8 below) onto the inner(to make a #4), you will not use a jack, but use visegrips or a pipewrench to hold the inner while you thread the end on far enough that you can drive to get an alignment. If you can't tighten the nut on the balljoint(#9), use a jack as described above.
