i'm actually getting a d90 also with the 18-105 lens.
i haven't heard anything about it being replaced anytime soon. the d5000 apparently is similar to the d90, but the d90 is way more user friendly. it has more buttons to access options and it actual shows the setting of the camera on the display unlike the d5000. the d3000 and d5000 are the newest models out i believe for nikon in the dslr.
apparently the down falls with the video end of the d90 is that is can only take a maximum of 5 min vids, you have to stop the vid and restart to focus, and the video is good, but not as good as it should be... nikon is still working on it from what i hear.
