There are numerous postings on the M5board, showing catastrophic results from exceeding the stock rev limit (even by well maintained cars).

I'm pretty sure you are referring to the s38 motor. I've never heard of that in an S62. Also, a short V8 crank is much less prone to torsional vibration than an inline six. I just did a search and nothing turns up. I've got at least 6 cars in the GTA that have this exact software for over 4 years, without a failure.
