Camera advice???

I'm the market for a digital camera. Can't afford a DSLR right now and I don't think I really have the experience to make the most of one anyways. I'm looking at the $400-$500 range and have really take a liking to the Canon S3-1S. Does anybody have any input on this camera, or any alternate recommendations?

Also one general question. Can you adjust shutter speed on a camera like this or is this only on an option on a DSLR? I like the effect when taking pictures of moving lights at night and seeing the streak (like taillights steaking red lines down a street).

The S3 is a prosumer camera, its somewhere in between SLR and Point and click. It gives you all the options of an SLR without the lense switching ability.

You can adjust shutter speed and aperture like an SLR, so yes, you'll be able to get pics like that.

You may also want to look into the Canon G7. Those are an excellent line of prosumer camera's.

Cool, thanks, I'll check out the G7 too before I buy.

In case you haven't bought a camera until now, I reckon that you would want to visit this site, (http://www.smartratings.com/photography/digital_cameras), in order to check all the cameras that might catch your interest. Just a suggestion.
