beater audio Q's (kriston, paul, check in)

Ok so the sound system in the beater sucks (surprised?)

Good news is i pulled some stuff out of the bmw before i stored it.

Have a great headunit, and a sub.

More importantly, i have an amp. 4 channel, 500 watts RMS.

Here's my question. Obviously i'll hook up the headunit, and wire up the sub and the amp. But (i'm assuming) a 1989 accord doesn't have a stock amp.

So i'd like to replace the cabin speakers (most are blown anyway)

So i have 100 watts RMS coming out of the amp for the cabin channels. I'm pretty sure that's not a lot.

Should i set up just a L and R speaker?

Or can i do FL,FR,RR,RL?

and just make RR, FR, and FL,RL wired up to the same output?

In whichever case is true, what speakers should i get? they HAVE to be cheap, i refuse to spend real money on a honda. If you got used ones lemme know. However cheap speakers can be found on ebay, please just let me know what i should be looking for.

(has to be able to play somewhat clear reasonably loud, doesn't have to be blaring, just something to take my mind off the fact i'm driving a honda:D)

thanks guys!

Does your sub run off the 4-channel amp? As in, do you bridge two of thm to run the sub, and use the other two for speakers? I'd do it L/R, both left speakers running off the same channel, and both right speakers running off another channel. This begs the question, how is this amp @ 2-ohms? You're going to be wringing it out if you run the sub and internal speakers off of it (it will get hot fast), depending on model of course.

OK.HONDA do not a stock amp,so you can run your 4ch into a 3ch just no fading, you ch 1-2 to the front only,ch 3-4 bridge and the rear of the deck, the amp may get warm but it will not hert it at all, just turn the gain to 8 o'ckock and you are done.......and to answer to TOMs idea here and not a good idea to,WHY, well it is running a 2ch amp mix/mono,I would 4ohms on the amp only.......but if was a H/C amp than yes .....

its a lightning audio striker 500.4

(rockford fosgate components i think)

400watts RMS bridged for the sub

then there's two channels, left and right for cabin, 50 RMS each.

i think that's at 4ohms, not sure about 2ohms

ivan, run 1 and 2 channel for your fronts. and 3 n 4 bridged for your sub then for your rear speakers run it of the head unit. u will have more front stage but its your winter beater. thats the way i would run it for my beater...

Okay, I was assuming he didn't have a built in amp in his head unit. I don't (anymore) :(

u dont anymore?....

dan you know more about the audio system in my car than i do. I think i have like 20 watts RMS per channel out of the HU.

Also, tomek, about the amp overheating, its a 500watt amp, right now powering a 150 watt sub. It should do ok:)

$500bimmer 11-02-2006 12:02 AM

honestly that will be fine for your rear speakers. and for the amp you could only be puttin out 150 watts of power to the sub and its a 1000watt amp. but if you have ur sub at 1ohm and the amp only goes to 2ohm it will heat up. to much resistance

propr'one 11-02-2006 12:06 AM

i dont know what any of that means. lol

you got some used speakers you wanna sell me dan?

$500bimmer 11-02-2006 12:07 AM

Internal amp burned out. And now only one pre-amp output works. She's toast :(

umm size. lets see

probably anything around 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 inches.

I have no problem taking a hacksaw to it to make it fit. I'll measure tomorrow

you still have that crazy cheap hookup on remote starters? i know like 5 people who want em, me included

paul christians 11-02-2006 09:24 AM

what year is your beater IVEN??to be on the safe side of things 5.25 in the and back,1 10"sub in a sealed....there is braket for the fronts that can be remade of 1/8 MDF for a 6.5,and I would put a 4 or 5.25 in the back for fill..
