Redo stock system?
I'm pretty sure the factory system in my '96 328i is gone.. The rears have lots of distorted low-end bass, and the fronts are WHISPER quiet! I want to replace these parts with cost-effective setups as I'm on a limited budget and don't want to invest loads more $$ into the car. Any suggestions for redoing the speakers and replacing stock HU with another simple-factory-look-alike setup? I'm also sure a new AMP will be needed (what about wirirng, will I need to put new ones in?). Lastly I'm looking for a HU with an auxilliary input (ie. for an external MP3 player to be plugged in).

Any info is appreciated. Thanks guys!

what is your budget???

Say under $800 (keep it as low as possible), I'm not looking to use a sub just yet.

^^^I will look in it for him,but not say anything good but 800 for front and rear spearkers and a 4 channel amp,is too low........I will see for you ok...

Thanks guys! Paul, please keep it lower than that if possible! I'm not looking for audiophile level stuff here, just something decent enough to get by with good highs mids and lows. Nothing extra-special :)

^^^I know but at your buget it will be hard to that, but I will try to find stuff ok....have you tryed BEST BUY....

What if I kept my stock HU and put in a new amp and speakers (will this solve the ultra-queit front spkr problem?), how much am I looking at here?

paul christians 09-21-2006 12:06 PM

your front are done, for the amp I would keep it for now and do the speakers(front and back)run new wire too but not to hook it up tell you ccan get some nicer amps(3).......BEST BUY has some nice stuff, but not best stuff...

What size do you recommened for decent bass output from the rears and fronts, without significant mods to the car's door/rear deck panels?

$500bimmer 09-21-2006 11:22 PM

6" mid bass in the fronts and yes it can be done i have it done! lol i have 6.5" comps in the front

paul christians 09-22-2006 12:41 PM

yes a 6 or 6.5,in the door 4" and tweeter set-up,so you may us a 2 way but a 3way nicer....

dbworld4k 09-23-2006 12:51 AM

Don't the bigger speakers require cutting?

Also what about this setup:

6x9 conversions in rear (anyone sell those adapter plates cheaper than BSW?)
6" in the door panel
and 4" in the front doors.

paul christians 09-23-2006 04:38 PM

you car has a 6 or 6.5 in the kick panel and the doors a 4" and tweeter like I said once before, and the rear 5.25 or 4", I would stall away from 6x9 all togather...
