HELLLLPPPP!!! $10k in repairs

my 88 735iL finally just let me down.
I had just ordered my new wheels, crossdrilled rotors and ceramic brake pads.
  1. My Tranny started kicking into 3rd gear and displaying "Trans Program - See owners manual" on the dash when it was cold   *thmbsdwn*
  2. My rear end lifted up as i was riding home and started riding like a box truck; display "Self leveling suspension"   *thmbsdwn*
I took the car to BMW to get checked out and they said torque converter, speed sensor, trans mode switch etc etc. to replace will cost $4700.
the self-leveling rear - struts $1200 hydro pump (maybe) $500 lines, etc another $3000 in parts plus labor

Any suggestions?! Can I bypass the self leveling and repl w/ regular susp?*sad*

A) doing anything at the dealership is like driving without insurance. Whatever problem it is, you pay for it, and a 5000$ fine. Hit some independant shops man

scrap the car, you can rebuy a 88 7 series for the price of these repairs

I really don't want to scrap it. If I buy another it is still used and I could run into the same or comparably expensive issues. I would like to find a rebuilt Transmission. I can install it myself.

Anyone know where to find decent, reasonable rebuilds?

You can buy 5 e32s for that money! May as well upgrade to an e38 for the cost of that repair quote.

Now if you wanna go used transmission, this is more of a canadian board so most people will recommend toronto shops. Your best bet would be to find a bmw shop or parts place in your area and price out a used transmission.

That is my plan (used or rebuilt transmission) My favorite 7 is the e38*mw* , and it is an eventuality, however I really like my e32.

 I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to bypass the self-leveling and put the regular suspension on the rear. That is the biggest thing. I believe I've already found the tranny*th-up*

there is a way to bypass the suspenstion leveling, visit roadfly.com and do a search in the forums. they have pretty much every fix for every problem

Thanks guy! Will do!

OK, here is the solution I went with. I ordered the H&R Springs 1.25 & 1" drop from a great local company GMP Performance. I ordered the LAD Elimination Kit and Bilstein Sport Shocks from Bavarian Auto. *wiggle*

I talked to a guy here that rebuilds those transmissions all the time. He said to just buy the mode switch since it is bad. He said, because everything is ultimately linked through it, if its bad it can cause alll those codes. I ordered it from BMW.*th-up*

Totals:
Suspension: $900.00
Transmission: $ 65.00

Much better than *uzi* $10K, Huh*par-t*
