Question about Z8's

i've been bored all morning and looking up exotic cars came across the Z8 and this one thing struck me as interesting the Z8 has the BMW M5 motor that says M power on it with the huge ducks and crap, however if you get the Automatic version of the Z8 you get a little bit of a beefed up 540i motor. Anyone every see this or know why they would do it since you can hook up a SMG to that M5 motor no problem.

The S62 Z8 was the original, 400hp 6-speed supercar.

The 4.8L model you're looking at is the one-year special Alpina edition. Automatic tranny, 20" Alpina wheels, and other little touches. It's sort of a small special edition to say goodbye to the Z8 production. Likely hold collector status 50 years from now.

They were never produced at the same time, the Alpina model replaced the original S62 variant.

yes there were 555 Alpina Models made in 03 however the manual ones still had the M5 Engine the other Alpina models had this weird 540 motor.

There was no other Alpina model, the Z8 was never offered with more than one drivetrain at the same time. Just the S62 6-speed, and the Alpina 4.8 Steptronic.

no you didn't understand me, there were 555 Z8 Alpina's made, meaning 1,2,3....555 and that was the entire production run and in that production run they made two complete differenty engines and drivetrains for auto or manual. Atleast thats what it looks like, i went to ebay and found a 2003 Auto and Manual and both had engine shots showing completely different engines or atleast plastic crap ontop of the engine.

Pretty sure all the Alpinas came with the same 4.8, and they were for sure all automatic.

Yep. All the alpina came with 5speed ZF auto tranny. same shit found in the X5's and the 5 series. the shit u found on ebay wasn't a real 555 alpina.
PS. anyone got pics of the alpine 4.8L B10? i wanna see that V8' individual throttle bodies.
