After Aftermarket Radio Installation????

Did you have any issues with radio reception after installing your aftermarket head unit???

I just installed my Pioneer head unit and FM Radio reception is crap!!!

It's either I forgot to plug in the attenna (which I know I didn't forget) or I just have a shitty head unit!

Anyone?? If you did, did you do anything to fix the issue??

I have a E46 by the way!

Thanks

I'm not sure about e46's but on e36's there is no "antenna"

There is a secondary matrix on the rear windshield. Looks just like a defroster matrix, but its sperate and serves as an antenna.

The signal from this antenna is sent through a preamp and signal booster prior to being sent to the stock deck which must also boost the signal.

Aftermarket decks in e36's I have worked on are NEVER nearly as good as the stock deck for FM reception.

But what do I know... I hate radio... I removed my antenna and welded up the hole :)

You could also try an aftermarket in-line antenna amp. For the $30 or so, it's worth a shot.

It's a weird connection that is by itself on the annt side of the original deck on a e36. I cut it peeled the insulation off then wired my annt power wire from the head unit (could use amp turn on if you havn't got one for the annt) to the solid copper part.
Could be the same for an e46.
