best way to mount subs in an E30

i'm sure this has been posted before but i dont have the ski compartment. I have heard that to avoid rattling the trunk they should be pointing to the front of the car.

I have mine sitting in a box right in front of the ski pass through, and it still vibrates the rear license plate a bit. Put some weatherstrip underneath, and 250W is unleashed :D

well idk theres always gonne be thoose vents on the sides that will always flap, wen the subs around pounding, unless u close them shut or somting.

the best way to mount subs in a car like that is to mount them facing the back of the car. if you are worried about the trunk rattling then put some dynamat on the inside of the trunklid.

the olny places the trunk rattles is:

licence plate (use rubber plumbing washers)
the plastic trunk lid jam (use thin foam weather stripping)
vents near bumper (this rattle is un-avoidable)
the jack and tools in the compartment

i dont' think dynamat will help that much unless you put it everywhere

T. Dot E30 that is fine but he dosnt have the ski hole like Jordon......so to do so you has to cut some holes in the metal behind the seat...........

My 91 e30 did not have a ski hole but the metal panel was perforated where the ski hole goes. I punched out the panel and faced my two 10" subs forward. I then had the face of the box sealed to the metal panel so that the subs' soundwaves were forced into the interior of the car. Absolutely zero-rattling. Rattling is ghetto IMO. I initiially had subs facing the other way and it does seem to play a little lower. The effect is probably similar to "corner-loading" a sub in a home environment. But the entire trunk rattled. Much happier with subs facing forward.

It works great, even without the pass through.

My setup is similar to Jordan's except sealed and I did it first. :D

if you don't have the ski hole you should cut one yourself. If you are going to spend your time and money installing a sub, you should do it right and port the back seat. Most e30s had the perforations for the ski hole which made it easy to simply punch it out. Since yours didn't come like that, you should cut a hole out yourself.
Point the subs to the rear of the car unless you only have one and it is mounted in the ski hole.
