tech question
 
i have an 87 535is,
it runs perfect when its up to temperature but, when i let it sit over night it has a very difficult time starting. when i get it running and let it sit for about 4 hours its fine, just over night it wont start. Any ideas?

i have the same problem with my e30 people are telling me its the fuel filter but i havent gotten around to changing it yet so it mite be that

fuel filter or pump...sounds like the car takes awile to build fuel pressure...just one suggestion,but with all the electronics you never know...

another thing to check for is temp sensor

I too would also check the fuel pressure. The older 5-series have a check valve right at the fuel pump inside the tank that when faulty will allow the remaining fuel pressure (in the lines and rail) to bleed back into the tank creating a long/hard start condition. SO.
