I've heard of E30 guage clusters going for a $hit and needing replacement.. but you could always check the sending unit first in the gas tank.. maybe it's not reading a stedy voltage and needs to be replaced.. can't really help you but i've seen this on the coolant Temp guage many times

Clean the grounds on the back of the cluster

What cleaning accessories needed? Air gun, soft brisseled brush...

I think you just take the cluster out and clean the corsion off with sand paper or something. It works for the temp gauge anyway.

check the SI board is working OK. The old batts may have leaked and farked all the traces on the board up.

Sand paper ; that doesn't sound good for flow of electricity if you hand slips nad scrapes a critical point.

you know what happened to me just last week, kinda related... my computer shows whack consumption readings, the gas gauge works fine and the consumption needle under the tach works fine but my computer shows like 5.9 l/100 and a distance of 999+ on a full tank .. stupid thing

I've got the same problem on mine, and I know of several others that have had the same problem...I think it must be common...I've just been relying on KM's to know how much gas I have, and since the low fuel warning still works, I don't worry about it too much. But I wouldn't mind knowing why it messed up, I figure I will fix it some day.

my computer fixed itself...a couple of nights ago it just reset itself, liek the time/date and everything reset...and since then it shows the right readings .. weird , but i aint complainin :)

Same thing here, my gas gauge doesn't work and the low gas light is always on.... but every other gauge seems to work fine

Although, I miss a gasket near the filling hole maybe it has something to do with it?

just get a new gauge if the gauge is faulty! used ones are peanuts! i got a cluster with everything for about $30. As for the OBC (if thats what you re refering to as a computer unplug it and check the connector is ok and make sure its plugged in correctly and tight ! I am pretty sure though that both the fuel and temp gauge faults will only be solved for good if you replace them. Had the same problem too!
