What can I do about my slipping clutch?
 

My clutch is slipping... my car is really pissing me off right now.

What can I do?

should I just drop ina nother E34 clutch or should I go with an E28 clutch + flywheel (single mass)?

Is there a diff between E28 and E28 M5?

What motor do you have?

He's got the M20B25 (also found in the E30 325)

miguel check bavarian autosport for a clutch kit, its cheaper than the dealer

Try BMPD.com, i got my clutch kit there, and it was the cheapest place i could find it, they make OEM sachs clutches, with about 30% better grabbing!

Miguel - I checked out the ETK and it looks like you have a dual mass flywheel.

A cheap bolt on upgrade would be a single mass flywheel from an e30 325i... I'm guessing that you'd want the clutch kit and throw out bearing for the e30 as well.

Thats why I initially was inquiring about finding an E28 M5 flywheel. Do you know if there is any difference between an E28 M5 flywheel and one found in your average E28? Is a used flywheel a safe thing to buy? or would I be better off getting an E30 flywheel and getting someone (Randy?) to lighten it?

How much would a setup like this cost? am I looking at over $1K?

I have no idea if the big six flywheels bolt on to the baby six motors. The early e30 etas as well as all the e30 i's are all single mass which is the way I would lean.

You know this flywheel fits and is made for your motor and I'm sure its way more plentiful and cheaper than an m5 flywheel.

Another thing to consider that I can't answer is which starter would work with the flywheel you choose. I'm pretty sure your current starter will work with the e30 flywheel, but I don't know about the others.

A used flywheel is a safe buy, just make sure its in good condition... not too much scoring, not warped, all the ring teeth are there etc.

I believe the dealer installs an e30 clutch for something like $650 - if this is the case for your car you might be able to get everything done for about a grand.
