zo6 vs. E46 m3

who do you guys think would win from the line?

a vett or the E46 m3.

SickFinga 11-05-2003 07:31 PM

vette without a doubt

tlaselva 11-05-2003 08:07 PM

Having own(ed) both, there is no comparison.

M3's rated at 333 HP, pushing 3400 lbs.
Z06's rated at 400 HP, pushing 3100 lbs.
Those numbers alone will tell you there's going to be quite a difference.

Real world experience:
Gladdo, at Cayuga would run high 13's with his E46 M3.
Same track, my average is a 12.7, with a best of 12.60. Little over 1 second may not seem like alot, but when your trapping at over 100 mph, 1 second is quite a bit.

The M3's quick off the line, but I found that once into 3rd gear, the M3 felt like it ran out of steam. The Z in comparison pulls hard, in any gear. Guess that's the effect of having 400 ft lbs. of torque will do for ya. :)

but how can you compare us hp, to german, hp.

i don,'t agree with you, my friend has a z06, and only after 2 superchargers and 500 hp can he get high 12's in the track.

and you say Gladdo was running HIGH 13's with an e46 m3.

then he prob doesn,t know How to drive, from personal experience i know that a stock e46 m3 can easily get low 13's in the 1/4 mile.

and i guess a z06 can do the same, low 13's if its stock.

i think if tlaselva owned both of the cars and has track experience iwth his vette i think he would kno a bit better then you about what both cars are capably of

Mystikal 11-05-2003 09:11 PM

Magazines have hit the Z06 at what, 12.4?

It's not even a comparison.

Your absolutely correct.

If I had no intentions of racing my car, I would've kept the M3.

moerom 11-05-2003 11:51 PM

No comparison whatosever. The ///M will get walked at any speed.

But Tony, remember the smell and sound of that ///M3 you had? I get a hard on just thinking about it!

nah man, the best ive seen a zo6 in magazine or on TV was abest run of 12.9 and an average of 13.1 and i read a lot of magazines.

still they are faster then an M3, still if i had the money for a new m3, i`d throw in a couple bucks and outhandle and out gun a zo6. (be more happy with the style)

There is no way to throw in a 'couple of bucks' to make the M3 outgun the Z. Trust me, I did my research on the aftermarket on the M3, before giving it up for the Z. The best you can get is the Dinan S2 package that is 18G's US, and some tests have shown that there's not much more than 10 to 15 RWHP. For the M3 to stay neck and neck with the Z, it's got to push about 450 HP, which is not possible with the S54 engine.
The only way it can come close, is a M5 V8 engine transplant.
Hamann (sp?) does the conversion. Quoted 55G's Euro!
Doesn't make sense to spend 160G's on a M3. At that price, you’re better off to buy a Porsche 911 TT. This way you have your 'style' and power, with a warranty.
