Looking to Plastidip my car matte white. Any recommendations (shops/independents)?
I heard that matte white or gloss white are tricky to do and was hoping people could recommend and shop or person that does a good job at a reasonable price.

^^ if i were you, i would look into vinyl. cost for cost, esthetics, and application.. vinyl wrap 100% better

i know some guys that can do this for you. it would be significantly cheaper than vinyl wrapping.

pm for info

id also go with the vinyl wrap. I feel like plastidip doesn't belong on bmws

There are a lot of horror stories with dipping your entire car. Make sure you do your research. While I was looking I found that a lot of the plastidip shops that popped up when the product first got popular are no longer in business.
If you are going to do it I wouldn't keep it on for very long. Also get the same shop that did it to remove it so they can't point the finger at you if there's damage.

As long as you don't buy knock off dip it actually works really well. It's come along way now. So many different colors available. If applied properly can be easily removed. The more coats you spray the thicker the layer the easier it is to pull off. My friend has been doing it for awhile now and I haven't seen or heard of any customers come back with horror stories. Pm me for details. He has done a few white bmw projects.

I dipped one of my cars white last fall. It took a lot of coats and the grey primer was still bleeding through in some spots. Also a pain in the ass to keep clean. I'll probably do my roof black and then some glossifier but i wouldn't do the whole car again, i'd vinyl first

What's the rough cost for dipping a car?

ryanjv 07-08-2014 11:22 AM

mine was done in the US. it cost about $700USD. I was going to do it myself, but supplies would have cost me about $500 from dipyourcar to get grey dip for a primer then all the white i would have needed. So i figured an extra 200 for labour then why not have it done for me. Get what you pay for though, the skirts weren't coated as thick as they should have been or as they said, because it was a pain to peel off later on

you may not need as many coats depending on what your cars original color is, but i was orange so i needed alot

didn't want to embed because they're too large

pain to keep clean

Are there any colours you would say that are easier to clean or isn't so bad with dirt on it? I've dipped my rims before and had a great experience. Why did you end up taking it off anyways?

Looking to get my car done as a way to protect against rust from forming and for a change of colour.

White without glossifier is really hard to keep clean. The smoothness is all in how you spray. There is a technique behind it. It's not just shoot and paint. I find light colors are harder to keep clean.
