HELP - 2011 x5 ---- What a POS!

These new BMWs are pieces of shit. Absolutely ridiculous. I owned a 2005 330ci for 6 years without any issues at all. This x5 has spent more time in the shop than on the road!

Problem:
- engine light goes on for a day or two, randomly clears itself upon start up
- jerks while driving, puts itself in neutral, and dies.
- doesn't start, just turns over
- after multiple start attempts, dies right after I put it in drive
- after letting her sit for 10 mins, starts and drives fine for a couple days

Codes:
p1030 - Valvetronic motor
p2178 - Idle too rich
p0087 - fuel rail pressure too low

I'm thinking:
- eccentric shaft sensor
- valvetronic motor itself

Any experiences? Anybody resolve this? I'm trying to avoid being bent over by BMW Service and Parts yet again....

Is your X5 not under warranty? That should be a very simple thing to get resolved under warranty from my understanding.

FYI: The issues you listed are common with the X5. Do you have a 3.0 or 3.5

xoutpost.com can help you with your concerns...great group of guys/gals...you bought a money pit SAV...

3.5 sports activity model

- no warranty
- no chance of "good faith" warranty

just bend over....

Trying to DYI and just buy the parts

How are you out of warranty? Mileage exceeded 80km? Check out xoutpost...lot's of experienced individuals...

xoutpost looks great. just signed up and posted.

I'm at 110k on the x5. Warranty is a terrible 80km - Is that the industry's lowest now?

What happened to the powertrain warranty of 120km?

Honestly, sounds like the fuel pump

Thats the case for most new BMW's, just over 100K, and ready for some serious repairs!

80km is the industry norm...CPO is 160km, but that does not apply to your X, since you purchased it from a small dealer...

Dude, go see Rocco at RMP and quit complaining. Its mechanical, it will break at some point.
