Re-Finishing Style 5 Wheels
hey guys, just thought id post this up for anyone who cares ahaha, going to be disassembling my 17" style 5s and polishing the lips of the barrel. might be painting the centers but maybe not. ill see how i feel lol. so far ive replaced a couple of bent style 5s and repaired one at alloy wheel repair. cost me 100 bucks to straighten it. also picked up some "aircraft paint remover" which is some magical heavy duty paint remover that peels paint in less then 30 min or so. i picked up the product at mps (metropolitain paint supply) i believe is the name. heres some pics :)

Heres yhe wheels before i went to alloy wheel repair.
One was left at home cuz it didnt need repair but one of the wheels here was repaired and the other 2 were checked for trueness
And the paint remover :) ($50) for a gallon :)

Got started on the disassembly and removing of the clear coat!

This is an example of why i wanted to refinish them!

And this is what the aircraft paint remover did within a few minutes!!

Sorry i forgot to take pics of them all stripped and ready for polish, wasnt sure if i was going to sand them in steps then polish, so ill try to just polish and see how it comes out!

Here is one polished only. Do you guys think i should sand and then polish or is this a good shine and finish for the wheels?

Depending on what you want, you'll need an orbital to get a mirror shine. (and that's what you want)

They look pretty good, i can see the original marks from when it was machined

Polishing those lips requires a shit load of elbow grease... Ask me how I know...

I spent a whole winter working on and off on mines, but the result was pretty good. However the mirror finish fades a little bit if you don't take extra care.

You seem off to a good start!

The bolts arent clean but the lip is, i didnt have the funding to do exactly what i wanted (powder coat centers and bolts)
