E30 Lowering Question (e90 drop hats?)

-Hey everyone, so i'm looking to lower my auto e30 (daily driver).
-I am looking to go the route of springs/shocks for my auto since its my DD and i want it to be more comfortable than coilovers. I've measured the gap between my fender and top of my tire and i've gotten these calculations:
driver side: front gap 3" rear gap 1.5"
passenger side: front gap 2.5" rear gap 1"
-I am assuming that the extra .5" on driver's side is compensation so when you sit in the car it's level? not sure not to worried about it...anyways, i want to drop the front about 2" - 2.25"
-I have found lowering springs (along with new shocks) that drop 1.6 in the front and 1.4 in the back. I am okay with the back being 1.4" as it will tuck a little bit and i like that. but as for the front, i want about 2". This leads to my question...
*Has anyone ever had experience with e90 drop hats? Do they really lower the car another .5 inches in the front? If anyone can confirm that they do that would be amazing! Anyone with any information please let me know!

ps. how much front wheel gap is there on a stock late model e30 with stock tire/wheel (mine are aftermarket but match up to same size)

or these? these say they're e30 drop hats (im assuming they're just e90 hats cause it says from later model). think they would really drop it .5 inch?

how much bleeding do you want from your kidneys? seriously...things get pretty rough in terms of ride when you start dropping the car like that. suspension components also will start wearing prematurely.

i'm not to worried about that lol i'm sick of seeing this 4x4 wheel gap on my daily...considering it's 23 years old i'm not too worried about suspension wearing prematurely as i'm replacing control arms and bushings along with lowering.
i'm just curious as to if these drop hats will really drop it another .5"...because if they do i can lower this thing a lot easier (on my wallet) with them instead of paying 55$ more for springs that lower .4 inches more.

If gap is the issue just drop some 20" dubs in there and the gap will disappear... :D

Ill take my 15" bbs over dubzzzzzz lol & I think that'd just make more gap tbh

Yeah man but picture this... you rolling down yonge st. friday night with your 20" spinners flashin' like diamonds... some classic rap like "funky cold modina" blastin'... that's pimpin' old school man... LOL... hahaha...

but I agree the classic bbs look better...

E30Jack 08-19-2013 07:02 PM

You just convinced me, I just went out an bought 20" with custom spinners...Topped with hydraulic suspension...hahahaha
I'd probably get shot if I drove into town with dubz on my e30 lol

My GE coilovers with the same Bilstein shocks ride 10x better than my H&R race/15mm drop hat combo did.

E30Jack 08-20-2013 02:53 PM

I'm not using H&R race, I'm using vogtland and koni adjustables. I've found H&R rides really harsh for street use. But ty for input

Sorry what's your current spring/strut setup?
Any camber plates?

I tried the e90 drop hats and had some rubbing on my plates, if you're using stock setup I've heard it's fine -- really not a huge difference tho IMO

E30Jack 08-20-2013 05:09 PM

Right now its stock. I will be using vogtland and koni adjustables. No camber plates. If the drop hats disrupt anything I will just remove them, I got them for 20$ so I figured they're worth a shot to lower it a bit more.

Roysneon 08-21-2013 07:45 AM

The drop hats will be fine. When I had the 15mm hats I had no problems so you'll be fine with the e90 ones.

I only mentioned the H&R race to try to dispell the myth that coilovers are harsh to drive on. They will be better than a progressive rate spring, but once again it's all subjective.

E30Jack 08-21-2013 12:59 PM

Trust me I know coilovers are fine for driving on! My other e30 is on Megan coilovers and I love them! Just wasn't looking to shell out another 1k for my automatic lol :)
