Im purchasing a used car through a private sale.is the tax determined by the amount on the bill of sale or blackbook value?it is a 2004

I believe whatever price is higher!

fitter527 05-09-2013 05:30 PM

I thought I remember reading that the rules have changed in the last couple of years?

By the blackbook if the Bill of sale is very low than blackbook
but one can alwyas try the bill of sale...

fitter527 05-09-2013 05:53 PM

I paid 3500 and the avg blackbook is 6000.so I pay tax on the 6000? What a scam

you ill most likely pay on the blackbook.
you need someone like me to appraise it for you for 3500 ;)

If the UVP has a value (some cars dont) that is over $1000 (wholesale) you pay on that amount, if under; whatever you tell them. If no value shown; whatever you tell them.

With an appraisal; the bill of sale or appraisal, whichever is higher.

in my experience the chick at the desk asks me and just types in what I tell her. depends on the clerk of course(and Ive always had a bill of sale with me).
