"Not insurable" Porsche 964 with Meloche

So, after a month of having my car insured through Meloche, I got a call indicating that my car was not insurable with Meloche - that they did not have the VIN in the database. The car is a Rest-Of-World spec, which I expect is the problem. I've used Meloche exclusively for about 4 years now, but this really annoys me.

Any recommendations? Two minor convictions in three year, no claims, no accidents, non-GTA postal code. I'm willing to move all my insurance over if the price is reasonable - house, two daily drivers and the 911.

Thats' why they dropped you, not the car.

I've always had good luck with Co-Operators.

Three Porsches with them over the years.

Seems unlikely - they still insure my other cars (I pay $55/month for my VW, for example). I think it's more likely that the ROW (Japan) VIN didn't register on their database - which is what they explained.
I'll try the Co-operators, thanks!

Why not try Hagerty/Lant - collector insurance?

I'm going to - but I'm not a huge fan of the restrictions for what I want to use the car for (IE: no taking it to work etc). I will if I have to (I was quoted only $430/year!), but would in fact rather have paid the $1100/year Meloche quoted to be able to use it without those restrictions.

First of all, pics of the car.

And normally an insurance co. Drops a client if they have 4 traffic convictions in 3 years. 2 sounds ludicrous.
I'm with cooperators and they have been fantastic. Belair gave me HUGE hassles when I tried to insure the car, they wanted me to change the vin before I went with them :huh?:

Check CUMIS as well. Switched from State Farm for $5000 savings per year on our 5 vehicles

it was my understanding that provided you had the CMVSS certification you could insure a car that was outside of the database with most companies. what paperwork did you get with the car?

I have an Ontario ownership: the car has been on the road in Ontario since 2006. I gave them a copy of the ownership.

is there a canadian safety compliance sticker on the driver door jamb?

No way around this. Meloche did this to me as well with one of the M5 I imported from Germany. I dealt with them for 2 weeks, right down to the underwritting department, and in the end went with Silverwheels (now Hagerty).

^^didn't that work out much cheaper for you in the end?

It did, and since it was a toy I didn't care about the restrictions.
