Best Place for Software Update

Where's the best place to get a software/firmware update for my 128i?

I was quoted something like 2 hours labor plus tax at BMW Toronto today.

What are you trying to change with the software? Just new stock stuff? If so, I doubt there's anything noteworthy to be had with the NA motor.

Try contacting the guys over at Stance Factory. They can do pretty much everything under the sun when it comes to software customization.

Seeing that you are in the Toronto area you should go to Bimmersport, they have the Autologic tester. This/they will have the latest required firmware updates for your 128i.

Steer away from anyone using copied/pirated BMW software for anything E6xx, Fxx, not because it is copied but due to it being unreliable due to incorrect scripts.

The last thing you need is someone bricking a module and not paying for it, just saying.

Even better if you can find someone using licensed BMW ISTA, and there are a few. *wiggle*

Mark.

If it's really required it should not cost anything. Emissions related is at no cost and usually under recall.
Last year dealer told me I needed software update on my 2003 M3. To make a long story short I now have a brand new SMG transmission courtesy of BMW Canada. Approx $12,000 and a 2 year warrantee to top it off.
Ps if it is really need let BMW do it as they will be responsible should it not work properly and they will be on the hook to make it right.

It's really not a lot of money and you make a valid point - if anything happens, they will be on the hook for it.
