2002tii Would BMW bring it back?

Gentlemen
Not sure if this has been mentioned on the site. Bring back the 2002 model design with all the new technology as an entry level BMW, instead of the 100 series. BMW did the Mini why not the 2002? Was a great little rally car in its day, great all around view from the inside (tons of windows), nice four speed, would be not bad for the gas mileage, very cool design( I believe) but it would be in direct competition with the mini. Any thoughts?

Much as that would be awesome, it couldn't work, at least not in Europe and North America.

1. Impact regulations make such huge windows and low sills impossible. Changing them would ruin the line.

2. Nobody really buys 2-door saloons anymore. They either buy 4-door ones or straight coupes.

3. As you say, direct competition with Mini.

4. The FR layout is going out of vogue...simply not as safe for average Joe. They'd pretty much have to rejig the entire suspension too.

If thy did, expect more of a tribute than a copy. Think 1M for the E30 M3...

Love the idea though! Gonna start looking for 2002s now :D

TSI...you make good points why it would not happen...I didn t even think of all the regulations that need to be met....just remembered the "safety" question North Americans had about the new mini when it was introduced...thanks for the insight

If BMW wants to make the 2002, they will make the car pass all safety regulations
but they wouldnt for the 2002 is a classic and it has to remain that, a classic.
