Code: P1183?
 

Hi all,
Its been a while since I've been on here, but a recent check engine light has brought me back in.

I had it scanned at Mr.Lube (they do it for free) and the code was P1183.

From my understanding this is related to an O2 sensor problem.

Would anyone know which O2 sensor this is? I believe the car has four of them.

My car is a '99 E46 with the 2.5L motor (M52).

update: Just googled P1183 and found

I still dont know where in the car this sensor is located though.

sensor 2 is probably the post cat sensor

foudn this photo on the net - is it accurate? the one with blue writing? bank 2 post cat - i think

Bank 2 Sensor 2 = Cylinders 3-6, after the cat.

Don't ask me if you start counting the cylinders from front to back, or back to front lol.

where to buy?
 

where do you recommend i buy an o2 sensor from?

NGK is $120 from Partsource
and BOSH is over $240 - each!!

any recommendations?

i just picked up the tool at princess auto for $8

if its just the post cat sensor I wouldn't spend a whole bunch on them

Autopartsway.com has Bosch sensors for around $80

FCPEuro is another vendor (and frankly more favourable) which will have them in stock, with cheap shipping for us Canadians.


Like the other poster said, if they're after-cat sensors, its not really a critical item, and has no impact whatsoever on drivability or fuel economy. If you don't want to spend too much, you can buy a cheaper off-brand sensor for the post-cat location, but never cheap out on the pre-cats.

Yes this is the commom o2 to go and dont try to tackle this your self u will regret it. Its nasty to do orless u got torches and crow foot

Its not critical but cheaper will fail faster and check engine will come on faster get bosch
