Speakers Issue

Greetings,

So I recently bought an e30 from a member on this board and I have and issue with my speakers not working.

So the problem started when i went to jump the car after the battery died, I left light nob in the middle -___-"

i connected the cables and started my dads van and got nothing but the cables burning so i called CAA and the dude that came told me that who ever installed the audio system switched the lables on the battery, negative labeled positive and so forth.

He said if i had tried to jump this on a newer vehicle i might have fried the whole car. luckily it just affected my speakers.

so would anyone have an idea where i should start or a shop that could take a look?

cheers

the old new baby

I'm not entirely sure how one switches labels on a battery...

If you smelled cables burning, it might just be that. Sounds like you'll have to run through the whole wiring system for audio. That being said, are you sure it is the speakers causing the problem? Do you have another headunit you can swap in, or maybe even plug the speakers into an amp to test them?

My strategy would be that: test each individual component until you find the broken one, and replace. I hope you have a multimeter :)

Where are you located? I might have some time in December to help you out.

I live in woodbridge(weston and major mak, i'll be on break from school in December so if i don't get it fixed by then we could defiantly meet up and get it sorted out.

I do have a multimeter so i'll see what i can find.

Good advice on the first post-- and no I don't quite understand that battery issue either...

I might be able to swing by this weekend and give you a hand

This is what i was talking about the wires were switched. Looking back I should have caught it because the negative is grounded to the frame. -__-"

My deck works perfectly fine. Powers off and on and all that jazz so I'm guessing the amp or speakers are blown.

Cormier, if you have any time this weekend pm me your digits and we'll link up. Cheers.
