car shut off while driving..help?

for the past few days my battery light blinked on and off ( very dim )

last night while i was driving my car, car interior lights got very dimmed , speakers crackled and died and my headlights were blinking.

kept driving it for few more blocks and car kept losing more power and shut off with car misfiring a little.

my car is e36 328is , does this mean my alternator is gone? do i need a new alternator? or voltage meter..not too sure.

Check your fan belt first.

most likely alternator is fried. Car ran on battery for some time and then once the battery died so did your car. The battery light blinks when your voltage that the alternator puts out drops below a particular number (I think it is 12.5V). Had a similar issue with my car and had to have my alternator rebuilt recently. I caught it in time tho and didn't get stranded.

theres a high probability you will be revisiting this problem within a yr....ive never had a rebuilt alt last much longer(usually less).
cure is to eventually bite the bullet and get new oem. YMMV though. goodluck.

Your alternator is dead. The flashing battery light is telling you the alternator is dying. Replace that thing ASAP otherwise you'll be stranded on the side of the road.

Yea I had this happen to me twice about a year ago. Got a "rebuilt" one that lasted two weeks. I brought it back, got my money back and got a Bosch-rebuilt-in-Germany from germanparts.ca (can't get them "new" anymore"). Been great since.
