e39 stock radio problem
hey guys recently i got a new head unit for my e39 and i am having a bit of a problem
i have taken the stereo out before so i know how to do it but this time its not working. i believe i broke the screw underneath the power/volume button so the stereo does not pop out my question is how do i do i it now how do i remove it? is there a way to pop it off by pushing it from the back or something ? thank you in advance |
The screw behind the button is not like other models (E30/E36/E34 etc)...You ONLY turn it about 1/4 or 1/8 of a turn to UNLOCK the clip that holds the radio in. You DONT keep turning it or it will brake! *th-up*

yes i know but i believe i already broke it :(
so what do i do now what are my options |
If you remove the climate controls you might be able to get it, or a few other ways...Stop by the shop and i can take a look at it, shouldnt be a big deal!
|
that's how i tried i have the climate control out and i tried to push it from the back with my hand but no luck so far
i will give it another shot tomorrow see if i can remove it thanks for the help :) |
Pushing wont help, you have to somehow undo the clip that holds it! Watch not to damage the frame, or you will hate yourself when you have to remove it! (its a B#CH).*wave*

at this point i dont care if i damage the old unit because i got a new one
i just dont want to somehow mess something up in a way that will give me a hard time when putting the new unit in i am going from the stock 2000 unit to the double din big screen one :) is there a way to undo the clip from underneath the stereo ? |
At this point i strongly suggest going to a shop that has done this before! To go double din you need to change the frame (cage) that holds the radio/cd unit. To do it without damage, half the dash has to be taken off...
|
not necessary, only the front plate is double
the back of it the actual stereo is still single din and it fits in the place of the original business cd slot its only the front cover that will cover both the cd and the control unit so i will not need to do any other modifications but i will go to a shop to have the oem stereo removed tomorrow if i cannot figure out a way to do it my self |
