Hello guys and girls.

I ordered lowering springs the other day they should be in by monday.

Im going with eibach pro-kit lowering springs 350$cash and was just wondering if there is anything else i hsould be aware I need to buy?


bilstein struts ill purchase later this year but for the time i need to know what i need to make the lowering process smooth.

You have your basic set of tools? Spring compressor? Jack and stands?
And of course whatever else you want to replace while you're in there! Some ideas may be shock mounts, bump stops, rubber boots, bolts and other hardware, any brake parts, wheel bearings, suspension bushings even...

My friend who is a mechanic is doing this job for me. i dont think he has a spring compressor at his shop. jack and stands and a bunch of other tools he has.

Is there anyway around to getting the shock onto the strut without a compressor?

Are you referring to suspension bushings on the control arms?

And I have zimmerman brakes all around.

+1 I would replace as much wear items as I can once you are in there.

Also, it is better to do the shocks at the same time, as putting lowering springs in on stock shocks will just kill them faster.

Do the job once, and do it right. *th-up*

my mechanic discovered my e38 has sls.
Will the lowering springs interfere with the sls or am i good to go?

If you are going to keep the SLS, you will need special springs for SLS.

I deleted my SLS and put Bilstein shocks all around with H&R Stage II springs.

To delete the system, you just have to remove the SLS shocks in the rear, and loop the hydraulic hoses so that you do not have to change your power steering pump.

There are a few thread on how to do this on bimmerforums

Check with Partsource for specialised tools. If they have it you can borrow it. All they would need is a credit card to put down a deposit so if you don't return the tool they would charge your card. I used them when I needed a much larger socket to replace my wheel hubs.

Now i have to tell my mechanic to loop the hoses....how does he do that?

He already put the rear end back together...Darn it. :mad:*mumble*

i remember my mechanic telling me the sls wont interfere because it will just self level itself...i also recall that there is a way of adjusting the ride height underneath the rear end of my car...
