Am I mad?

Am I mad for thinking of selling the M5 for an E38 7er? I just love the lines of the big body cars. That's not to say I also don't live my 2001 m5 I just don't think I drive it enough, it spends most of the time in my garage and a low km M5 should be driven more.
Just looking to hear some opinions, my friends say I'm crazy to even consider it but I'm at a loss.
All input is appreciated!!
Btw, if I did pull the trigger and do the car switch, I'd be looking for a low km 2001 E38 740il with full screen nav and all the options (just like my e39)!!
Thanks!

E38+S62+6speed FTW!!! *th-up*

I am still looking to do this swap, but HAS to be a 740i SPORT! An IL is nice, but does not do it for me. The SWB with all the small sport options is SOOO much better looking IMO. One of the sexyest lines BMW has come up with.

Another option will be just an E38 with 6spd swap, i doubt anyone can be happy going from an M5 to an automatic; unless you drive for a living, and are sick of the clutch! :D

While E38's are rare, so is a clean M5 with low Kim's.. Keep them M5.... Too many kids modding their 540 to look like the M these days.

How many Kim's on your beast? Mines at 124kms

I can relate, I feel the desire to go to an e38 750iL(2001) pretty frequently but the Automatic simply will not do and doing a 6spd swap on a 750iL is not an inexpensive or easy to get mod so I just let the M5 put a smile on my face everyday.

I wouldn't sell the M5 for an E38, and I LOVE the E38!

If you can, keep the M5 for weekends, and pick up a clean E38 for daily driving duties. There are so many cheap examples online, albeit not 2001 models, but sometimes you can find something in decent shape for not too much money.

what are you driving everyday?

I would never do that switch.

Mine is at 115kms, and in great shape. I have the luxury of walking to work, and I also have a Mazda 3, so mine will not be racking up the kms too quickly.
Thanks for all the input, my friends have similar opinion that I should keep the M5. I just had to hear it from people in the bmw community.
Looks like the M5 will stay in my possession for a while longer!!

Mike can do the swap.

I hear ya. I have a 14 km round trip and take the GO into TO. But likeTerry(bmwm5lover) said, even that short commute puts a smile on my face!

I've met a few good E39 M5 owners off this site... Next cruise we should get some decent shots!

Sell the mazda and get some kilometers put on that M5

You'll have some cash in your pocket and a big smile on your face.

But in all honestly , I never understood people who have good cars but prefer to drive some "DD" jap car trying to keep km low on the good car.

Its not a 507, sell the jap car and drive the beast

It's not that I don't want to drive the beast more, I just dont drive in general all that much.
Whenever it comes time for a road trip tho I always grab the BMW keys!

That just reminded me to call my insurance company to put Summer insurance on it! That poor baby only saw 1000 kms on it last year while I put the remainder on my vert and truck.

God, I'd keep the M5 personally...E39 is the best looking 5 series in my opinion...and with that low mileage...

Good points, keeping the M5. It does always put a smile on my face every time I drive it.
