18' or 19' wheels on E60 2006 525i
I'm looking for some opinions on what I should go with. I have a 2006 BMW 525i with original 225/50R17 all around on my car now. Looking to upgrade the wheels to either
18' staggered 8.5front 9.5 rear Beyern Wheels - Beyern Mesh Black with Polished Lip with 245/40R18 Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 front, 275/35R18 rear
19' staggered Beyern Wheels - Beyern Mesh Black with Polished Lip
245/35R19 Front Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 275/30R19 rear
Advice, ideas, criticism’s greatly appreciated in making this decision.
Some people say 19' crack easy and the 525i weight can't take them and there a rough ride.
Some say the 18' are a better ride and don't crack and are in-between style and performance. Let the opinions begin.
As an E60 owner myself, I would say that the 19s look really great. It is the stock size for an M5 of that generation so you know it will fit your car and look sharp. 18s would certainly improve the look of the car, but 19s would take it to the next level in my opinion. Have a look at some pictures on this forum of guy who have posted pics of the 5 series cars and you will see what I mean. Good luck and please post some pics when you get them, always love to see what guys are doing with the E60s.
I never answered the cracking issue. The problem is that you need to match overall circumference on the wheel, which means bigger rim equals less sidewall on the tire. The narrow sidewall means it give the rim less protection and can crack if it hits something or you drive over something in a rough manner. I am no expert by any means, but that's what my tire guys told me.
19s would certainly provide enough rubber, but you should and likely will be a bit more careful over those train tracks.
A good tire place should offer you good insight as well on this issue.
"Go big or go home"
19's for sure
