Im getting the Contour GPS ...its small enough not to be obstructive, its durable,it runs on battery so no cable hanging towards the lighter plug,I can use it for other activities when using it in the car.Negative is manually turn it on and off,no parking mode, and cost over $300....

I can see that being a pain to always make sure the battery is charged. I can't imagine the battery will last very long.

I'd prefer a switched power source that is hardwired, some dashcams will auto turn on and start recording when they detect power and turn off when it's off.

Lithium-ion last 3 hours....some places are selling with a car kit and extra battery....

but again if pricing and car only is the factor the BlackVue is the one to get...group buy happening at RedFlags.

the "808 cam" is also in HD now. (google/ebay it) and people are running those now.

makes a great budget set up though even with the extended battery its only about a hour worth of recording.

I picked up a BlackVue 400HD for my daily driver... I avoid too many accidents and one of these days... Let's just say I want indisputable proof. Camera works awesome, but too wide an angle for track use IMO. I've got a GoPro for the track and not crazy about it, but the new version 2 seems better with optional accessories. Consider the Innovative Drift HD camera, it comes with a remote control and has a small screen on it to review/edit footage. Here's a pic of the BlackVue computer interface for footage...

and how much did that set you back?
my guess is thats not very cost effective...

Got it though a group buy.. $210.00
I think this thing is far more advanced than the $300 GoPros.

The blackvue looks nice! Does the camera turn on when it senses the ignition on, or do you have to plug it in each time?

Do you guys know if the Gopro has a cigarette lighter adaptor for power or does it only rely on battery life? Just asking because i don't really want to be bringing in my camera home each time to charge.

Even better. It has a G-sensor. If it doesn't detect movement after 30sec, it goes into "parking mode" - powers down but on standby. If your car should be "bumped" in the parking lot, it automatically turns on to record (maybe the culprit?). All these settings are adjustable through the interface (LED color, shock sensitivity, on/off delay times, parking mode disable, voice prompts etc). Truly an amazing little device.
