m54 internals plus m50 block = s50!

was looking for some engine build ideas and i came across this little interesting article, i just posted the link incase someone is interested?

Its a budjet build that cost him less at $1000 bucks, ofcourse we are in Canada where it will still cost a bit more:(

damn! I might have to do this to my m50

I am in the middle of doing this now. Its going to end up costing me probaly close to $2000 but I am doing a full rebuild and port and polish as well. Hopefully I will be able to see 200+hp to the wheels out of it.

It's a pretty neat combo - you'd want cams to make the most of the displacement: S52 cams are a good bet and reasonably priced.

I went with the M54 cam as its a fraction of the price of the S52 yet still helps it breathe much better then the M50 cams.

Lol ... pics of what? I'll look like every other engine :)

^He is right.

Although I am going to make a build thread in the future if anyone wants to see the process a little more in detail. Plus I will be cryogenically treating the engine so it will be interesting to see the outcome and gains of that.

IN for thread. I want to do this to my old m50

I don't understand the hype all of a sudden, these motor builds using stock parts have been around forever.

Engine builds aren't cheap, a m52 with a few mods will make similar power cheaper, unless these parts fall into your lap and you know how to build your own engine.

Its not that difficult when you have a build book with proper bolt torquing , oiling, timing and assembly priority instructions. *th-up*

Free m50+ lets say to be realistic 1000$ or so worth of parts+time= not very expensive, cheaper then a s52, more power then a s52.

I really don't understand why people keep trying to push this outright and blatant lie ... please tell me how is it possible for a lower displacement engine to put out more power with the same cams?

The stroker build is nice (we have 2 of them), but saying that without any additional bolt ons it will be more power than an s52 is plain silly.

More power than an S52, i don't think so, i know of another stroker using a combo of cheap parts that yeilds a high compression than what the op posted. combined with S50 cams it just cracks 190Kw. An s52 with the exact same mods done as this high compression stroker still makes more power.

i wouldn't even attempt such a build without getting the buttom end balanced and blueprinted. You are just asking for trouble but things together without them balanced.

And to get a machine shop to balance/blueprint a block is not cheap.

If anyone wants a cheap reliable motor used M52 block which has never been touch internally. If already have a 328i, then start modding, And it aint no slouch with the proper bolt and a good tune.

For anyone that want to know more about M5x stroking, look in here.

Good Luck Stroking. :D

If anyone wants to try, i got a few M54B30 to be parted...and several M50B25, M52B28 and M52B25...*wave*

Where would one get ahold of this build book you speak of ?...
