Best lap timing app?
Has anyone tried this app at the track (road coarse, not drag racing) How well does it work as a lap timer?
https://market.android.com/details?i...id.Trackmaster If anyone knows of a good app for Android OR iPhones post up a review! |
Yeah, I've tried it, You will need an external GPS. The maps suck. I can show you some maps from my runs at mosport.
All in all you'd be better off with a dedicated track system. Dave |
Harry's laptimePro
ppl actually use this for track |
How well does Harry's one work? Have you talked to anybody who uses it? Also, a lot of the GPS based ones are dependent on how well the phone's GPS works and how well the cell signal is so some apps might work better on certain phones etc.
|
it only works on apple though, no android app
|
I haven't decided what phone to get yet, I'm either getting a 4S or a Droid RAZR and this would be one of the only app's I'd use. haha
|
I have a droid nexus and it has a in car adapter. Having an adapter is useful at the track.
Still doesn't work that well though. |
diablo superbiker is a great app for that and your iphone can sit on your dash. wii give you a lot of info and pretty accurate lap times for the track and a lot of info even for just cruising around. heres a lil screen shot of a data shot off of my phone

I have a few videos up on youtube.
Harry's lap timer is cool because it does video overlay. At mosport GPS signal wasn't that great so speed readings are off. An external GPS receiver would improve the signal alot, im looking into it for next year. http://www.youtube.com/user/tdottme#p/u/2/Py1f4Q8hwD4 There are more that i've uploaded under the same account. |
thats a pretty sweet app
|
I might try Harry's timer, it's cheap enough even if I get a dedicated system in a year I won't feel like I've wasted $10-20 on the app as long as I get a bit of fun out it.
I wonder how GPS signal is at Cayuga. |
It's not the signal you need to be worried about. The signal is the same everywhere in the world. The problem is that most phones only update the GPS position once a second. I bought an external bluetooth GPS that updates 10x a second which is much better for lapping.
|
So you are using the gps unit in conjunction with your smartphone?
|
Yes, it is a Bluetooth GPS unit that goes on the windshield. Works pretty well. The app is still not that great though. But it does give you lap times, and you can put them on google earth
|
I bought an external GPS add-on for my iPhone.
Can't wait to test it out. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...SIN=B005I0JYUY |
