Best Winter tires for 07- 335i

So I asking around these are some options i am looking at

Any advice on these winter tire choices? I drive alot on the highway..
and dont have xdrive so i'd rather not skid into any rigs or guardrails....

the winters i had last year were pretty worn so i'm shopping around and need tires that will keep me safe without breaking my wallet..

The following are quotes from my mod/tire dealer:

225/45R17

Tempra WinterQuest HIV $740
Continental ExtremeWinterContact Win $1020
General Altimax Arctic WIN $950
Falken HS-439 $880
Maxtrek / Sonny WOT18 WIN $630
Hankook W300 Icebear 94V $820
Barum Polaris 3 (Continental) $720
Dunlop Graspic DS3 $990

Optional Size: 20550R17

An optional size 205/50R17 may possibly work as well:

Continental Extreme Winter Contact : $890
General Arctic Altimax $830
Falken HS-439 Eurowinter $870
Hankook W300 Icebear $760

Any advice or comments appreciated *th-up*

225 is pretty wide for winter imo? go with 205?

noodles101 09-29-2011 01:42 AM

will be cheapter too

Go with 205, last winter I drove a few 335 with 225 winters and it's kinda useless to put winters this wide on it no performance change from all seasons same size. Then put 205 on and never had an issue with it since

slimmer is better for winter. Michelin, pirelli. a bit pricey but you'll get great stopping power and traction. Don't cheap out with winters or you'll pay getting stuck.

Call Active Green and Ross. They seem to still have their buy 3 get 1 free promotion on certain tires (including winters).

Some of those prices seem way over priced.

for example,
225/45R17
Hankook W300 icebear can be had for $700 all-in.
Barum Polaris 3 can be had for $655 all-in.

BTW, I don't recommend getting the General's or the Dunlop's for your vehicle. The compound is a bit soft for the power of the 335i. For your vehicle, get at least a T-rated, preferably H-rated or V-rated winter tire.

I can only recommend what I personally driven on. Right now I have a Good Year ultra grip in 205/50/17 and I actually like them alright , they offer a good amount of traction even in deep snow.

I had Pirelli 210 SnowSport and they were COMPLETE garbage, I couldnt drive anywhere with my old little 180hp BMW . Stay away from those.

Best experience I had with a set of michelin alpin tires (same size) and I would definitely buy them again if I dont find a better tire

you maybe need to get with the times.

Goodyear Ultragrip - well, pretty much Goodyear's whole line of winter tires is called Ultragrip. There is more than one. Just like Blizzak. it's just an umbrella name for all bridgestone's winter tires.

Pirelli Snowsport - they don't make it any more. discontinued for a while.

Michelin Alpin - they are already on Michelin Alpin PA3...

i agree with the rest, if you can go 205 width H or V rated that would be ideal

however, what rim dimensions are you using? is it 17x8?

205-width tires are matched to 17x7.0-7.5 rims. 17x8 will be too wide for the tires to perform properly. if you have 17x8, then stick with 225-width H or V-rated tires.
