How's your fuel consumption?
 

I am thinking of buying 2001 740i but need to get a better idea how good (bad) the gas mileage is in the real world driving conditions?

With a mix of city and highway, I get an average of 575 km per 100 L tank

All highway I can get 850+ kms

It is definitely not great. Any similarly powered BMW would run around that. The newer cars tend to have taller last gear and other gas saving advancements to give better consumption in the HW


Actually you have a 85L tank, and the 750iL has a 95 which slightly higher consumption. But you drive it like a BMW ;)

I'm getting about 550-600km per tank 75% highway driving and it'll cost me about $70 to fill up with low grade lol. It's not an m62 though, but I think it's pretty good for a 17yr old boat with a v8 haha.

That's what the manual says. 85L with a 10L reserve while mine is 95+12.
The reserve should be part of the 85.

If I could afford the extra cost in fuel ( I drive a lot and with no fuel saving habits in mind), I would love to have a 750IL in the fleet.

You drive a 335, and that is also one great machine :)

An E39 M5 can be tough on hte wallet too, in terms of gas ;). Its a different smile you get!

17L/100km is aright, you gotta pay to play.
You know i noticed in Europe on 95 octane i could get slightly better consumption results than here on 91.
On 95oct i would average 14.5/100km city and highway mixed, but than again could be different gearing than here.
