Where to get car appraised?

So I just found out today that cars older than 20 yrs old need to be appraised by a used car dealer (any used car dealer) before you can transfer the ownership.

Any ideas on where to get this done in London?

See if Adrian at fanshawe motors will do it.

I used a guy not a few weeks ago. Four Counties Auction Ontario was the name of the outfit. Can't remember the dude's name, but he'll come to you same day you call him (unless he's mad busy).

I don't know if it'll get you anything, but tell him the dude with the shitty 318 out in Belmont sent ya. ;)

I've got temp plates on it right now so I can take it to the dealer. I will give both those places a call.

That's actually not true. If you have insurance arranged for it, they will have assigned a value. Get a letter from them stating what that value is and the MTO will accept that instead. That's what I did. In my case the insurance company used the purchase price.

From: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/dan...d.shtml#buying

Go down to "how are the wholesale and retail values determined"
For passenger and light commercial vehicles (2,200 kilograms and under empty weight) 20 years or older, the retail sales tax is payable on the purchase price, replacement value for insurance purposes, or appraised value, whichever is more.

I just had mine appraised. It was a joke, much like anything else associated with the MTO or insurance.

Bud came to my house asked me a couple dumb questions; stick auto? AC? 4 door? Then asked me how much I payed and wrote down $1000 less.

Well shit, I could have done that. What a waste of time.

cost of appraisal?

How much did he charge you for that 15 minutes of his time? Man, what another bullshit cost for owning a car in Ontario.
