used X5 Reliability

Hey guys,
my family is looking to buy an X5, up to year 2004. 3.0 or 4.4 somewhere up to 150,000kms.
What can you tell me about the reliability of these cars?
Thanks in advance

xoutpost.com

tranny issues, electrical issues, cooling system issues. Find a well sorted one and have deeper than usual pockets.

Oh really. dam. Haha, alright then... guess X5 is a no go.

They aren't THAT bad. 6 cylinder is more reliable (no v8 specific issues like valley pan gasket and intake gaskets), cooling system is the same issue as all mid 90's up bmw, tranny issues aren't as common as most say it is, and electrical is hit and miss.

We had a 3.0 a few years ago. No engine/tranny issues, but had a few electrical gremlins like window switches and steering wheel. Those are relatively cheap to fix though. FYI, the 3.0 is slow as balls.

I have a 2006 4.4i, 110K kms, so far no issues. You need to go up a couple of years in your search for a used X5.

Early ones are. Gotta go for the face lift ones to get away from most of those issues.

I did a lot of digging on Xoutpost when I was looking at a 4.6IS.

Tell me one BMW that doesnt have those issues, lol

X5s are solid cars. Buy a facelift(as in when buying any BMW), make sure you take it to get a PPI and enjoy the car.

I'd love to get one myself when I can afford one.

Absolutely love the look of E53 4.8is. One of the most beautiful BMWs to date for me, right after E46 M3 on my list.

I didn't say they were immune to problems, just that there are less of them according to my research

As stated before, the 3.0 is more reliable then the V8's. Other then driveline problems, they have many small issues that can add up quick if the truck was neglected. Most common things to go are; door handles, cluster, radio display, audio amplifire, licence plate lights/handle, window regulators, window switches (driver side), hight sensors, and climate controls.
If i didnt have 2 other trucks, i would be driving a 4.6is for sure...LOVE them!

Thanks for the input
