Does it play MP3 cd's?

simplycars 01-27-2011 12:23 PM

it is a minidisc player - not a cd/cd-rom player

That's a cool little exclusive option for the car, but is it practical enough? I mean, i don't really see mini discs being "in" anymore.

It's to go with his 8 track and tape deck. jk. ;)

Rare piece of equipment.

Bump for the OP.

piotrek636 01-27-2011 02:25 PM

haha, close :)

i have been using minidisc since late 90's

i am using minidisc sony xplod deck in my golf now, i have 1 more in case as a backup, ( on my 4th deck now )

i have 3 home component stereo minidisc player/recorders

at home, trying to make use out of them lol

i have couple of portable players as well

yes i am a bit minidisc crazy

minidisc would have been more popular if sony didnt charge so much royalty for every other brand to make minidisc players or media,

they were doing this with beta video as well

being propriatery is a sony thing now days

they are trying to run the media ondustry, getting out of hand if you ask me,

think about it, they are trying to dominate the electronics market with bluray now that they won the blue laser technology over toshiba i believe

they already own music and movie industry, i have been reading some interesting articles where music artists were complaining that they dont get paid royalty fees for sony using their music in movies because sony claims they own the rights to it

i hate sony for that, they actually dont make electronics all that good, there are better brands out there

but i liked idea of minidisc too much to pass it up and move on with the fab ( today, flash media)

thanks Zimmie,

i found it on ebay, listed in german as cassette player

got it for about 100 shipped here, where not too long ago i was willing to pay $250 for a used one from uk

everytime i ran the 'md53' search there were no results other than a mini cooper deck that has been there for about a year i think

but that is a keeper. Even thou, i don't own 1 mini disc nor an e46 at the price if i saw it ill have grabbed it too.
I didn't even know that exited. I love rare audio equipments.

piotrek636 01-27-2011 02:41 PM

i sold my 330ci coupe over a year ago because i was buying a house, i know i will be back for a e46 m3 some day, till then, the deck will (not) be collecting dust as it will stay boxed until then :)

ok... i am not trying to be a hater... but who the hell would want a mini disc in their car?
its bad enough they didn't add MP3 features until 2004/2005... Why don't we all just go back to CASSETTES or 8-Tracks! :p

the good thing is if anyone ever breaks into your car... they WON'T steal your stereo! :p

Sony is also notorious for the high prices of their memory sticks for their cameras.

This is so odd.

You could've spent $40 of a genuine BMW aux cable or make one yourself for less then $5.

Different strokes for different folks.
