OE 2.8L Turbo Stroker build for 2011

Figure I might as well create a new thread for this as it's a new year, and with a new year new ideas come up on the quest for HP :)

That chassis will be scrapped and the new setup will be going into a 318i vert this time around.

Last year we had a completely stock 2.7L M20 Stroker making 460whp, that was somewhat short lived due to a stupid idea to use the crappy Cometic MLS gasket which decided to bleed cyl. pressure into the coolant system.

As a temporary fix we tossed the MLS (no damage to the fire rings or any signs of det, we assume just failure of the layers) in favor of a 100% stock OE-aftermarket paper gasket. Left the car on low boost/WG pressure of 17psi where it still made a very entertaining 400whp/400wtq.

Now it's time to once again increase displacement using all OEM parts. No aftermarket pistons or rods. Although we are planning on doing some head work this time around as well as a Schrick 288 camshaft with VAC springs.

A run down of the planned build:
-M20 block
-M20 885 head with slightly worked-over/ported runners, stock valves, VAC springs, Schrick 288 cam, adjustable cam gear. Stock IM, stock TB (might change for larger).
-M52 Crank, bobbed counterweights and balanced.
-M20 325i pistons (short-skirt)
-M20 SETA (130mm) rods, polished side beams.
-Ported OEM Exhaust Manifolds mated to existing custom Y-adapter setup fabricated by SEM Motorsports in North York.

-Existing setup:
-Raceware headstuds
-Precision 6262 Billet turbo, T4 flange 0.68 A/R
-38mm Turbosmart ext. WG with screamer.
-Turbo back 3" Exhaust
-Precision core FMIC
-2.5" SS Charge piping
-630cc Siemens Deka Injectors (High-Z)
-Single in-tank Walbro 255 High Pressure Fuel pump - stock Fuel lines, rail and regulator
-VEMS V3.3 Engine management - Tuning by Schnell Engineering
-6 speed E46 M3 gearbox, stock M3 clutch with Dual Mass flywheel
-2.93 LSD Diff

Some pictures from yesterday evening my buddy (bitchfree) and I got the crank mounted on my lathe @ work, and after some fumbling with the cooling system we finally got a system that works without making too much of a mess (anymore lol).

We did half of the crankshaft and then decided to call it a night, it was getting late and I didn't feel like staying at work for 20 hrs lol. We will get this finished by the weekend.

Baller points for having an M20 mated to a 6 speed. I always had wanted to do that. I'm mighty jealous. Good work!

Stupid Maxbimmer and not being able to edit posts... who the hell thought of that shit?

Anyway... top end is together... slight change of plans for the original post tho..

Completely stock 885 head... not worked over at all, still a Schrick 288 but with Schricks dual valve springs instead. New seals, and lapped valves.

Pics...

Bottom end is already together, did that a while ago... I'll get some pics later... o-ringed block is really the only thing you will see.

We honed the bores ready to accept the new Total Seal rings for break-in as well.

We're thinking possibly Canada Day long weekend for the swap to the new motor.

My buddy took it to Garland and Sons in Scarborough

Small update...

We dropped in the motor on Sat, and did a little quick tune... hopped on the dyno for that... just did it @ WG pressure (7psi) and then I bumped it to 9psi (just testing the EBC)...

not bad.... Need to play with the cam gear though... and up the boost after checking the TQ on the headstuds and a fresh oil change

blue run is @ 7psi, red @ 9.

Even at 9psi that would be some fun just puttin around town lol. This thing is going to be a beast :D

yeah it used to blow the tires on the highway... doesn't anymore though... really tall gearing (2.94 rear) and Azenis took care of that.

What's an SG dyno?

6 speed is like any other tranny... it bolts right up, just use the flywheel & clutch from the 6 speed along with the starter... it just sit's on a 15 deg angle, so you need to make a new tranny brace and modify the shift linkage.
