Pocket DYNO Results! e39 m5
 
I did a pocket DYNO using my I-Phone, these are the results, anyone else use this app?

max power = 442 rwhp
0-100kph= 7.46 secs
Car e39 m5
17 x 8 snow tires
Passenger =1

Trunk full of cottage crap drinks, sleeping bags etc.
There are more reading but I thought these are the important ones. I am pumped about the numbers not sure how accurate tho!*rockout*

That's a shitty 0-100 time, but then again if your car is potentially making around 500hp then you would have problems hooking on snow shoes.
Unless you have some serious mods I call bunk on the hp value

442 rwhp sounds toooo much...The 0-100 is not the best, should be in the low 6...

There are some Mods, Dinan cold air intakes, tubi free flow exhaust, Mark D tune, what do ya think? I would like to get it real dyno test now!

Parm, if the tires were spinning the numbers are meaningless. And I can't see it having that much rwhp. If it really did, the 0 to 100 km would also be faster. Calculating power based on weight and acceleration needs absolutely no slip at the wheels, and then can be off by 15% easily if the weight is not correct. Take it to a dyno such as the one at Champion Motors.

With those mods I'd estimate 430-440hp at the crank, not at the wheels.

stock M5's run about 330rwhp, I doubt your getting that much. maybe 360whp is realistic.

Maybe it's trying to calculate engine HP?

That that application allow you to input the weight of the car? If so, what did you put down as?

I read that apps such as Dynolicious have an accurate accelerometer however the HP calculating feature is way off. Still, it's way cheaper than a proper RaceLogic Vbox. Got to love the iPhone... and no I don't have one but that's a strong reason to get one.

Weight imput 4500lbs full, I too thought wheel spin would make the numbers off. I guess wait untill the real DYNO results come in.

The wheel spin will make the calculated torque and hp lower than it actually is. I'm not sure what is going on with your pocket Dyno but I it appears the calculation is not correct. Does it ask you to put the phone on the dash and hit any button to zero the accelerometers?

Where exactly is the phone located when you accelerate, is it in your pocket?
If so, it will never give you an accurate result.

I saw a video of an iPhone3 with Dynolicious installed they talk about immobilizing and orienting the device for the most accurate readouts.

Yes, that must be done. And on the acelerometers we use on the product I am working on, I have to read the output of the accelerometers when the car is stationary, to calibrate them. The output will vary with the orientation of the accelerometer. The technique is called auto-zero calibration.

My Buddy was sitting on the roof holding it while I was unleashing the beast! I got no room for I-phone in my pocket there is already a DYNO there!
