Car Starters???
I went into Future Shop inquiring about a Car Starter for my 2006 3 series today and was told that I cannot install any aftermarket Car Starters due the the BMW's "Smart Key".
Is this true or this guy feeding me bullshit?????? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!! "Hoopie" |
Note: Just in case this is an "Winter Automatic Car Starter" that I was asking about.
Like the ones offered by Viper or Nordic. |
I spoke with a Car Detailing place in ottawa (Autotrendz) and the guy there said that it can be done but he wont do it cause it would take him about 8-10 hrs. I do remember him saying something about the smart Key.
hope this helps |
It's hard and not easy to do, because you have to by-pass BMWs security in order to trick the car into thinking there is a key in the ignition. Even if it were possible, it wouldn't be cheap you'd have to buy the bypass thingy and in most cases you need to put a spare key in it so that it can relay the code to trick the car and we all know those spare keys aren't cheap.
So he probably isn't BSing you, he just doesn't know how to do it, or doesn't want the hassle. |
i was going get one but iv gotten a quote from a shop, telling me it was gonna cost around $800. thats a no go !
