Solution needed

hello,

I'll be driving a brand new car from one city to another on the highway. I'd like to protect the front end and side mirror from stone chips, bugs...etc. I know about the clear bras from 3M and such but I just need a temporary solution for the duration of the highway drive.

Is there anything I can buy from Canadian Tire or such? Or even doing a custom basic fix myself - what material to use?

Or can I request the dealer to leave the car wrap on the front?

thanks

green painters tape works well. Buy the roll that's the widest, you'll thank me later.

How many rolls do you think will be needed for e36 front bumper, grill, and a small portion of hood

I doubt that you'll be wanting to put on painters tape each time you commute from city to city so i think you should just put on the 3M protectant and you'll be all set.*th-up* Never heard of a better alternative so far.

This would be temporary just to get the vehicle from A-B... I will be getting the 3M clear bra soon.

Just get the 3M film now. Green painter's tape is for painters, not protecting your car from rocks. Painter's masking tape does not have the required properties (toughness and slipperyness) to do anything useful, unless you consider looking like a dork with green tape on your car useful.

Hey guys i need the 3M protection for my car too but the dealer charges $600 is there any other place beside the bmw dealer for less?

My best solution for you is go grab the thickest dishwashing detergent in walmart, I had good experience with Fairy liquid in the past but they never make that kind no more.

Steps:
1. Clean your car.
2. Pour the detergent on the areas you would like to protect. (Be generous)
3. Spread around with your hand.

Thats it. Leave it on until you get to your destination then wash everything off.

Everyone used to do that when traveling across the desert in Dubai and Saudia. We used to cover the whole car tho except for windows ofcourse due to sand storms there.

I've driven thousands of kilometers in cars with painters tape on the front end. It will protect from rock chips. One roll of 1 or 1.5inch wide tape is sufficient.

Go to CDN tire, they have rolls of the 3m stuff, i bought a 4" roll put it across the leading edge of the hood in 2 sections, protects excellent.

There is a place in Newmarket very close to Open Road BMW that will probably do it for less.

This sounds the easiest. Did you put two layers ?
