Volvo T5R
Had a run in with a yellow Volvo T5R.
Suprised that I got him since the sig. other was in the car also and he was alone. He gave me the *th-up* at the next lights. |
Hmm... How much did you beat him by. That T5R is supposed to be very quick.
|
About a car length...:D Till the next light.
|
I'm just surprised that you beat him, that's all. Maybe he had an autobox.
|
Maybe he was driving an auto but a 2.4l turbo with 240hp and 300ftlb of torque vs a 3.0l 225hp stick...???
I was suprised too... |
I believe most of the T5R's came in stick, while some came in auto to satisfy driver's who want to "look" performance while not really being involved with their car like true enthusiasts do.
That's why Iike BMW's so much, they would never put normal auto on a performance machine like the M3. The T5R was meant to be Volvo's answer to BMW Motorsport Division back in 1995 when the T5R came on the market. I'm fond of the T5R as it represented the best that Volvo had to offer back then. I have not seen anything dramatic from Volvo since. BMW still remains the top dog. |
WhadUpp, e36 m3 came with 5 speed AUTO in North America

And Volvo has made a move recently releasing their S60 and V70R AWD, 300HP with twin intercoolers. Obviously it's no sports car, but it's great seeing Volvo trying to keep up nonetheless. And to clarify with this T5-R, Volvo did also release an 850 R which was avaiable around 1997. It's a continuation of the 850 T5-R but called the R. It came only in Red or Black, some had 5spd manual while some had 4spd auto. It had 10spoke 17" rims vs. the 5 spoke 17" rims on the T5-R and supposedly had a bit more horsepower. |
R devision is coming back now, hence the S60R (300/300).
The T5R are very fast, i would assumed he ate you.... |
WRX and a T5
I was in woodbridge once and in front of me was a WRX lined up besides a t5-R. It was just at the bottom of that bridge going over the 400 like a bridge. The WRX was revving its engine and the S70 T5 was just staying still ignoring it. The WRX got sick of revving and stopped. Just a 10th of a second b4 the light turned green the T5 blasted it. Man the WRX got really confused when he saw that T5 take off like a rocket. After pondering a second or two the WRX hit it. When I got to the top of the bridge and looked down the T5 was maybe 20m ahead. The WRX never caught up. So yaaah, RESPECT for the T5's.
