Central locking key programming
Does anyone know how long it takes to charge up the battery in the remote key before it's usable? Just received a replacement key for my e46 vert and so far unable to initialize the central locking/unlocking system. Thanks.

I am pretty sure you habe to program the key for it to work, search on how to program it. Good luck

Put the key in the ignition and turn it all the way forward WITHOUT starting it

Turn the key all the way back and take it out of the ignition

HOLD down the unlock button and while you are holding that down press the LOCK button 3 times

The doors will lock and unlock automatically

After they do that, put the key back in the ignition and turn it all the way forward without starting it, turn it back and take it out again and voila....

Let me know if it works :)

It works with the current good key. Nothing happens with the new key. Also, I tried the first step first with the current key and was unable to initialize the 2nd key. When I tried the first step with the new key nothing happens which leads me to believe that key needs to have a certain amount of charge in the battery for it to work. I was able to get both keys to initialize but when I tested it afterwards the nothing happens with the new key.
