I want to know the story behind this. Why was the flying car going so fast?? brake failure?

Happens when the tires meet each other. One car gets airborne, then other one gets busted. Doesn't happen to much in open wheel racing but there was a guy in Toronto during a F1 race that happened to and he died from hitting a tree behind the wall.

Actually, it usually happens only in open wheel racing. The front tire of the following car must make contact with the rear tire of the leading car....and the tires are only exposed like that in open wheel racing. It happened a few spectacular times in F1. The most memorable being Montoya and Villeneuve around 10 years ago. The resulting flying wheel killed a marshal. It's happened to me kart racing, unfortunately, the person didn't fly over my, but the front of the kart landed on my helmet and then fell off the back.

WOW! that's crazy. I saw car flip like that years ago watching a race. I think it was a GT3 car or something (don't really remember).

hockeyfan27 05-06-2010 12:26 PM

^^ maybe your are thinking of the Audi's in the 24 hrs of Lemans in 2000? They entered 3 cars, 2 went flipping off the track, they pulled the 3rd.

That video was insane.

I think you may mean the CLK-LM Mercedes cars?

hockeyfan27 05-06-2010 01:34 PM

Quite possibly, it was 10 years ago and I watched the race in a beer induced haze *drink*

I do remember it was that teams first year back after a hiatus.
