Tire Suggestions/ Where to buy?
Hey guys,

My car is coming out of storage in the next 2 weeks and among other things, I need new tires soon. I want to get an idea of what tires some of you have had and what you would recommend. On top of all that, where do you guys normally go to buy your tires?

I want a good summer tire but don't want to spend more than $600 for the whole set. I remember Mystikal making a few suggestions but I can't find that thread anymore.

So lets hear some suggestions everyone.

what size rims do you have?

600$ on a set of summers doesn't give you a whole lot of choice.

My suggestion would be don't buy new. Wait for a decent used set at like half price. You can probably get a set of much better tires at 70% thread for $400 than you ever would have new for $600.

Buy new. Tires are one of the most important components of a car, why would you cheap out on that?!

I run Kumho Ecsta SPTs... They are awesome, awesome tires!! Pretty cheap too!!

Call Allen at Simply Tire. He is one of the most straight up guys in this industry & will hook you up!! Jay, Anuk, & myself among SO many others deal with him. I haven't been able to find tires from the states for cheaper. AND no matter what he stands by his work down to the last lug nut. Seriously.

... My mom just put Falcon 912s on her G35 & loves them. Great tire. They cost her around $600 for 17s (don't remember the tire size, meh)

But such a good deal nonetheless. Allen gave her a price a few hundred dollars cheaper than Costco even & for a MUCH better tire.

The sizes I need are:

245/40/r17 - Rear
225/45/r17 - Front

Hey Steph, could you possibly send me Allen's number for Simply Tire? I'd like to give him a call tomorrow and I'll say you referred me.

Billy at Tires 23 always have good deals on Falken Tires.

I priced out a set of 235/45/17's for my brothers square setup and it was less then 600 bucks for the Falken Ziex 912's i believe.

Tires 23
I second the Tires23 recommendation- great prices, and if you find them lower, they will typically match whatever price you find.

I've purchased Yokos, Hankooks, and Generals from Billy and have been extremely pleased with all of his recommendations.

If you're going 225/245 staggered, there's lots of choices that should come in around the $600 price point. Depending on how you drive and what you're looking for, consider the following;

1- Yoko S-Drives; good dry grip, outstanding wet traction, predictable breakaway, no tramlining
2- General Exclaim UHPs; a little squishy buy quite grippy, great treadwear, excellent ride.
3- Kumho SPTs; see previous post

Dunlop Star Specs; these are the go-to tire for most of teh guys on; they are cheaper and better than the PS2s that the M3 came with. No experience with them personally.

Call Billy.

Because you aren't cheaping out if it's the same model...just mind the tread wear.

I used to go to Tires23 all the time. I stopped after IU had to wait FOUR hours one day for my car to go in, only to be told that my tires are not actually in the shop and to come back another day. To make matters worse, Billy didn't even offer to compensate me at all for the time I had wasted - no discount on the labor/parts, NOTHING. That really turned me away for good.

+2739821 for Allen @ Simply Tire. Call him at (416) 916-9233. Tell him myself or Steph (though you'll probably get a better price if you mentioned her... Titties always win) sent you.

And another +3287432 for the Falken 912s. VERY good tire for the money!

Sorry Eddie!
Yea definitely give Allen a call ^^^ NUMBER ABOVE ^^^, he is a ****in' awesome guy and businessman.

buy the tires in the USA. I looked on ebay brielfy and you should be able to get something decent (SPT, 452, etc) for the money. I forgot you had 17's.

Boss17 03-30-2010 10:50 PM

I didn't get a chance to give Allen a call today but will do so tomorrow. Hopefully he can get me a decent price on some tires.

Ivan, I would go that route but honestly hate dealing with shipping and shit like that. I just wanna get some tires, slap them on and drive. I'm already dishing out enough cash on brakes, clutch, and some other upgrades.

Worst tires I've ever owned, and outright dangerous in the snow/slush (brand new as well) *thmbsdwn**thmbsdwn*

I've used Billy and Martin @ tires23 a few times for tires, never any problems !
He found me the last set of Bridgestone RE01R's a few years ago too ! :)

For $600, I dont think you can get a great Ultra High Performance summer tire.

I found this the other day: Car and Driver summer Tire Test:

I just ordered the Hankook Ventus V12 for my 530.
