E30 rim selection
I've been thinking for a while that I would like to upgrade my rims to 17" to fill the wheel wells a bit better. What are some decent options to go with for a 17" rim? Pics please

I have 17 inch sport edition F7's for sale with tires. Pics in FS thread.

Why 17's?

If your willing to convert to 5 lug you will open up a whole selection of oem 17" wheels such as ds1's ds2's, contours, ltw's, style 5's and so on.

Their isn't to much of a selection for 4x100 :(

I had 17s on my e30 and you really need to pick them carefully. They can look too big, which is why I'm going 16s not too big not to small

Especially for tracking purpose as well (if thats what your into) having 17's can complicate things in terms of setup. 15's and 16's are easier to come by and work around. But its all personal preference.

what's involved in a 5lug swap?

There is a whole section on it on e30tech.

I think 17s are bomb. Good tire selection in that size, and with some selective offsets and widths, can run up to a 245 with no 'major' issues. Mind you, I think the widest 17" I've run is only a 215 :(

I'm on my 4th set of 17s currently, which will be fitted on in the spring. Some of my old 17s in the past:

very nice.... I just like the way it fills the wheel well in the rear especially quite a bit better....I was looking to do something like 17x7 in the front and 17x8 in the rear

I think you might find that a bit harder to do... your car is an 87 right? So your back fender arch is a bit higher than mine, or any 88+ e30. Search up Jordan's old e30, he had an 87 with plastic bumpers way back when, you could get an idea from that, as he ran a few sets of 17s, and even 18s towards the end of that car.

yea those 18's look a little big and a tight squeeze.... but I've looked at the 006 xxr and they come in 17x7 17x8 and 17x9 so that leaves a couple choices

Keep in mind that in order to make it appear to fill the fender, the car needs to be lower than for the same appearance with 16". Also, because the tire bulges out less, the tire will appear to lack the same volume when viewed from an angle.

Tracking with 17" wheels might be good for tirewall roll, but typically most 17" wheels are heavy as hell. A nice set of euro basketweave 15" or K1s are ideal track wheels. 14" are great too, but tires are harder to come by.

for tracking id use my 16" konigs
