I just bought a 740il 1998.
What do I do now?
Any tips, adivice or helping hand would be much appreciated so I can keep it properly maintained.
Its black on tan leather no tinted windows and with a suspension stiff as a f1 car.

Sincerily Europride.

60km+ wheel shivers

HELLO,

The steering wheel shakes and shivers when I start to hit 62km/h, my mechanic claims it needs a alignment I hope thats it. He checked out the cotrol arms, tie rods etc. Im hopeing it will need alignment and thats that. Next step would be to to get all my pixels back on the speed-o-meter and radio control display.

Also when the car is just siting I feel like the engine isnt doing to well, vibrates and all, pretty scary feeling, I suspect a lot a lot of sludge which I plan on getting rid og it by flushing oil every 1,500km. My engine doesnt sound normal its as if I might just blow...*mumble*:huh?::(:(:(

Oh and I saw a shooting star today outside my window, it was an incredibly bright and long distance shooting star, talk about perfect timeing to look out a window while sitting on the computer haha.

You take care of it and it'll take care of you. No issues with my '00 other than window regulator.

As for the wheel shaking it's your thrust arm bushings. Swap the whole thing then do an alignment. Make sure your mechaninc does a thorough inspection. Ofcourse you should also make sure your tires are in good shape as that could contribute to the shaking. If your shaking between certain speeds and while you are braking (if not now it will happen as it gets worse) then its the thrust arms.

Engine shaking, i would star off by cleaning the MAF sensor(CRC MAF cleaner from Napa Auto Parts), and throttle body. Also inspect spark plugs. If your MAF is dirty or on its way out it will casue all kinds of wierd symptoms. Why do you think sludge is the issue? If it is you could consider sea foam, but i suggest you read up on that first.

I thought you were gonna get the E39.*smoke*
