Fan Controller broken?

Hey guys i have a problem with my e30.

The fan only turns on at 4.

1,2,3, do not work. What will i have to replace to get it working?

Thanks

Google E30 fan resistor replacement. Its a board with resistors on it, located under the cover in front of (attached to) the blower motor.

about 40-50 bucks from dealer. Fan resistor gone. you can take it out and clean up the contacts to make it work again. but not sure for how long it will last.

Wow when did resistors start to cost that much, they go for like 5 cents. If you know how to solder. :huh?:

They're also inductors. Never tried soldering in normal resistors.
See: $23.48

But make sure you get the right one.

not those kind of resistors, these are basically just coils of thick wire on a plate. the little color coded electronics store resistors are for smaller circuits and wouldn't handle the load.

i got mine on ebay, it was about $20

They're not really inductors, just wound coil resistors. It's quite clever since they obviously through a LOT of heat with the current the fan motor takes, but that heat is sucked up into the fan motor and blown out into the car.

i found one at the Cookstown wreckers, $2

if i may hijack, ive got an e30 here that will make a loud noise on anything above 2, sounds like something hitting plastic on plastic. im thinking but hoping not blower motor? thoughts?

your hopes are ,well, "blown" fan baskets or bushing are packing it in. I got one if interested. you'll have to take off the cover and run the fan to see what is either interfering with the baskets or see if they are wobbly. pm me if interested.

They're less than $30 if you don't buy from the dealer. Who buys stuff from the dealer other than trim pieces anyways?
