Ignition Stuck
Hi Everyone,

I was working on a friend's 1989 5 series on the weekend.

He can turn his key to accessory but no further. We played around with the steering wheel, but the key seems locked out when you try to turn it to start.

It definitely feels mechanical, like something is jammed up and preventing the key from turning, as opposed to the car not starting due to electrical, fuel line, starter, etc. I think if we can get the key to turn a little more, the car will ster.

We took off the steering wheel, and the cover, then the switches, nothing seemed to be in the way. We figure something must have jammed/dropped/broken in the tumbler. What do you guys think? How do you get the tumbler out, there didn't look to be an obvious way?

Please let me know if you have any ideas, thanks.

Allright, so far, no ideas...I checked the internet and this is what I found: "If you look where you insert the key you will find a small hole, about the size of a paper clip. Get a paper clip, straighten it out and put it into that hole. Insert your key, turn the key on and give it a bit of a wiggle back and forth and the cylinder should come out."

I'll give it a try and let everyone know how it works, any comments would still be appreciated.

I've tried getting an E30 ignition cylinder using the little hole... to no avail. Never tried on a 5er though.

Did you ever get it out? Was there another way to do it?
